Calascio is a small and picturesque hilltop village located in the province of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. Perched at an altitude of 1,160 meters, Calascio offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

History
​Calascio's history dates back to ancient times, with evidence of human settlements in the area since the pre-Roman era. The construction of the Rocca Calascio began in the 10th century as a defensive fortress against invaders and served as a strategic stronghold for the region.

​Over the centuries, the fortress was expanded and modified by various ruling families, including the Medici and the Piccolomini. Today, the Rocca Calascio is a well-preserved ruin and a popular tourist attraction.
