Ferry Ports of Calabria

The main ferry ports of Calabria serve a number of different purposes. The one that's used the most is in fact one of the busiest ferry ports in Italy: drivers using the motorway heading south from Calabria have to use the ferry port of Villa San Giovanni to make the 20 minute crossing across the Strait of Messina to Sicily. With the same happening in reverse, the ferries on the route between Messina and Villa San Giovanni are in almost constant use.

The ports at the city of Reggio Calabria and the beach resort of Vibo Marina can be used for crossings to the Aeolian Islands, while Gioia Tauro's port is only used for commercial freight.
