​Situated in the Province of Udine, Lake Sauris covers a surface area of 157 hectares. The lake stands at an elevation of 977 metres above sea level and is 132 metres deep at its deepest point.

Lake Sauris, known as Lago di Sauris in Italian, is a stunning alpine lake located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy. Situated in the Dolomite mountains in the province of Udine, Lake Sauris is renowned for its emerald-green waters, breathtaking natural beauty, and tranquil surroundings, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
History
Lake Sauris is an artificial lake created in the 1940s as part of a hydroelectric project. The construction of the Sauris Dam on the Lumiei River resulted in the flooding of the original village of Sauris di Sotto. As a consequence, the residents were relocated to a new settlement nearby, known as Sauris di Sopra, which overlooks the lake.

Despite being an artificial reservoir, Lake Sauris is surrounded by unspoiled wilderness and picturesque landscapes, making it a popular attraction for tourists seeking a peaceful retreat amidst nature.
