The town of Murlo is situated within the Province of Siena and stands at an elevation of 294 metres above sea level. It has a population of around 2,500 inhabitants.

Places of interest nearby include Buonconvento, Montalcino, San Quirico d'Orcia and Siena while the recommended accommodation is the Hotel Bosco della Spina​. 
Murlo is included in the list of Bandiera Arancione (Orange Flag) towns and its most famous sight is the Museo Etrusco di Murlo - Antiquarium di Poggio Civitate, a museum exhibiting finds from the local area's Etruscan roots.
