Natural  Sights  of  Campania

Among the natural sights of Campania we find a small, yet diverse selection of topographical landmarks. Without a doubt, the most famous of these sights is Mount Vesuvius: the volcano which looms menacingly in the background from every vantage point in Naples. 

Geological activity also governs proceedings at the nearby Solfatara, close to the ferry port of Pozzuoli. Solfatara takes its name from the sulphuric fumes emanating from beneath its surface. In an area where myth and legend abound, it was once considered to be one of the secret gateways into the underworld; part of the Campi Flegree, a Greek term meaning Burning Fields.
