​​The village of Sperlinga is situated within the Province of Enna and has a population of around 700 inhabitants.

It stands at an elevation of 750 metres above sea level and is included in the list of Borghi Più Belli d'Italia (most beautiful villages in Italy). Places of interest nearby include Nicosia, Leonforte, Gangi and Gagliano Castelferrato.

History
Sperlinga's history dates back to ancient times when it was settled by various civilizations, including the Sicels, Greeks, and Romans. However, the town gained significant historical importance during the Middle Ages, when it became a fortress under the rule of the Normans. Its strategic location made it a valuable stronghold during medieval conflicts.

One of the most remarkable episodes in Sperlinga's history occurred in the 13th century when King Frederick II of Sicily seized control of the town. He converted the existing caves and natural cavities into rock-hewn dwellings and defensive structures, creating a unique fortified settlement.
