The city of Teramo is the capital city of the Province of Teramo with a population of 53,343 inhabitants.
It stands at an elevation of 265 metres above sea level and lies around 60 kilometres north east of l'Aquila, the regional capital of Abruzzo. The centre of Teramo is its main square, Piazza Martiri della Libertà which is also the location of its main sight: the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta. |
Other places of interest in the city centre include the Chiesa di San Domenico and Cattedrale di Sant'Anna. The majority of shops and restaurants are situated on Corso San Giorgio which leads up to the Cathedral or the aforementioned Piazza Martiri della Libertà.

Chieti's transport system includes local buses while the main train station, simply called Stazione di Teramo, is situated just over a kilometre from Piazza Martiri della Libertà, a walk of around 15 minutes.
Using public transport you can take a direct train to Pescara with a journey time of an hour and ten minutes or to Sulmona in just under an hour. By car you can reach the fellow provincial capitals of L'Aquila in 49 minutes (58 km), Pescara in 56 minutes (65 km) and Chieti in 59 minutes, a journey of 75 kilometres.
