History
Umbertide's history can be traced back to ancient times, with evidence of settlements dating to the Etruscan and Roman periods. In the 13th century, the town came under the control of the Papal States and the powerful Fortebracci family, who built the imposing Fortebraccio Fortress that still stands today.
