​The Vendicari Nature Reserve is situated within the Province of Syracuse and belongs to the Comune of Noto which is 13 kilometres away. The reserve is a coastal area, popular with hikers and punctuated with beaches such as the famous Cala Mosche.

Also on the reserve is Vendicari Beach while places of interest nearby include the beach resort of Fontane Bianche.

Vendicari Nature Reserve is a stunning coastal reserve located on the southeastern coast of the Italian island of Sicily. Situated between the towns of Noto and Marzamemi, this natural oasis offers a diverse range of habitats, including sandy beaches, salt marshes, dunes, and wetlands. Vendicari Nature Reserve is renowned for its outstanding biodiversity and is a haven for birdwatchers, nature lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
History
The history of Vendicari Nature Reserve is intertwined with the region's ancient past. The name "Vendicari" is believed to be derived from the Latin word "vindicatio," meaning "revenge" or "reclamation."

​The reserve was once the site of a Byzantine settlement, and later, in the 16th century, it became a feud owned by the Ventimiglia family. Over the centuries, the area underwent various changes due to human activities, including agriculture and salt production.

In the 1980s, Vendicari was declared a nature reserve, aimed at preserving its unique ecosystems and biodiversity. Today, the reserve is managed by the Sicilian Regional Department of Forestry, and it is protected as a natural heritage site.
