​The town of Castel di Sangro is situated within the Province of l'Aquila and has a population of 6,758 inhabitants.

Standing at an elevation of 805 metres above sea level, it covers a total area of 84 km². There are four hotels in the town centre while nearby places of interest include Barrea, Roccaraso, Civitella Alfedana and Scanno.
