Abruzzo's mountainous interior has produced a fine collection of towns and villages, each with their own charm and personality.

Of the hill towns of Abruzzo there's the magical Pizzoferrato built around a jagged rock while towards the coast, Silvi Paese is a charming little getaway with magnificent sea views.

The town of Castel di Sangro dates back to Roman times and is a focal point of the valley region that it occupies in the heart of the Apennine mountains. Picturesque towns such as Caporciano, Casoli and Torricella Peligna also feature on the list
