The village of Cerro al Volturno in Isernia Province is one of the prettiest locations in the Molise region. Standing at an elevation of 572 metres above sea level, it covers a total area of 36 km² and has a population of 1,240 inhabitants. 

A glorious village perched on a hilltop, perfect for the defensive attributes that would have been required at the time of its construction is a beguiling addition to the landscape. 
There are dozens of similar villages in Molise including Bagnoli del Trigno, Pietrabbondante and Pesche, each with their own charm.
