The village of Cretaz is situated a distance of 25 kilometres south of Aosta, the regional capital of Valle d'Aosta. It's located in the Cogne Valley area of the region.

​It stands at an elevation of 1,499 metres above sea level and has a population of around 90 residents.

Nearby places of interest include the towns of Cogne, Epinel and the Gran Paradiso National Park.
