The Latina Province occupies a total geographical area of 2,256 square kilometres including the provincial capital: Latina.
Within the province there are 33 provincial towns, which contain a total population of around 575 thousand inhabitants. Among the highlights of the province are the island of Ponza, the hill town of Sermoneta, Terracina seaside resort and the Circeo National Park. |

Latina is a province located in the Lazio region of central Italy. It was established relatively recently in 1934, and its territory was reclaimed from the Pontine Marshes through a large land reclamation project initiated by Mussolini's government. The province is known for its agricultural activities, beautiful landscapes, and historical sites.
History
The history of Latina Province is closely tied to the draining and reclamation of the Pontine Marshes. Before the reclamation project, the area was a vast, disease-ridden marshland that made it unsuitable for human settlement. In the 1930s, under Mussolini's Fascist regime, large-scale drainage works were undertaken to transform the marshes into arable land.
