The seaside town of Sabaudia is situated in Latina Province, 99 kilometres south-east of Rome.
It has a population of 20,464 inhabitants with the main highlights being the beach, the Torre Paola watchtower, the Lago di Sabaudia lake which runs adjacent to the beach, and the Fascist architecture of the town centre such as the Parrocchia Santissima Annunziata. |
Places of interest nearby include San Felice Circeo, Terracina, Sperlonga, Latina and Gaeta, while the recommended accommodation is the Hotel Oasi di Kufra which sits right on the beach. The main town is separated from the beach by a distance of around a kilometre as well as the long, thin lake which is crossed via a road bridge.

History
Sabaudia's history is relatively recent, dating back to the 20th century. The town was founded in 1933 during the Fascist era as part of the Mussolini government's ambitious Pontine Marshes reclamation project. The project aimed to drain the marshlands and turn them into agricultural land, providing settlers with new opportunities for farming and settlement.
The town's layout and architecture were designed by renowned Italian architects, including Giuseppe Pagano and Luigi Piccinato, following the principles of rationalist architecture. The construction of the town was completed in record time, and it was named after the ruling House of Savoy.
