​The Garfagnana is a valley region, situated in the Province of Lucca and covering a geographical area of 620 square kilometres.

The area is characterised by its hills and mountains, as well as a clutch of historic towns such as Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Barga and Castiglione di Garfagnana. Pisa Airport can be reached by car in an hour and 17 minutes, a total distance of 75 kilometres.

Garfagnana is a picturesque and mountainous region located in the northern part of Tuscany, Italy. Nestled between the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, Garfagnana is known for its rugged landscapes, lush forests, and charming medieval villages. History
The history of Garfagnana dates back to ancient times when it was inhabited by the Ligurians and later by the Etruscans and Romans. During the Middle Ages, the region became part of the powerful Duchy of Modena and later the Duchy of Tuscany.

Throughout its history, Garfagnana was a strategic border area between Tuscany and neighboring regions, resulting in the construction of numerous fortresses and defensive structures. Today, the region's medieval legacy is evident in its charming towns and well-preserved architecture.
