Lakeside  Towns  of  Abruzzo

There are two ​lakeside towns of Abruzzo in particular that stand out as places in the region that warrant a visit.

Both Barrea and Civitella Alfedana sit on the banks of Lake Barrea in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, one of the most bucolic areas of the picturesque region. 

Although Lake Barrea is artificial, its 225 hectares provide one of the most memorable sights in the national park. The little hilltop village of Barrea which overlooks the lake at one end is a warren of historic narrow streets just waiting to be discovered.
