The most famous ski resorts of Lombardy are among the most popular in the whole country. The Italian Alps in the northern areas of Lombardy provide resorts with excellent facilities and dramatic scenery. Not only are they used in the winter, but during the summer months they are a hive of activity for people coming to enjoy the fresh mountain air and hiking routes.

The resorts of Livigno and Bormio are both situated in the Sondrio Province; Livigno lies in a valley close to the Swiss border while Bormio is the last major town in Lombardy before the Stelvio National Park. Colourful Ponte di Legno lies further to the south.
