The town of Melfi is situated within the Province of Potenza and has a population of 17,739 inhabitants. ​Covering an area of 210 km², it stands 532 metres above sea level and is located 52 km from Potenza, the capital city of Basilicata.

The main sights of Melfi include the 11th century castle, Melfi Cathedral and the Palazzo del Vescovado.

Melfi is a historic town located in the northern part of Basilicata, in the province of Potenza. Positioned at the foot of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano, Melfi offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including vineyards and rolling hills.
