Milano Centrale is Milan's main train station and its most important transport hub. It's located to the north of the city centre, around three kilometres from Piazza del Duomo which puts it just outside walking range for most people.
This is the station you're most likely to arrive at if travelling to Milan by train from one of the other major cities of Italy. |

The station complex includes a Metro stop called Centrale FS which is on two lines of the underground rail network: M2 and M3. If arriving in Milan by air, your coach transfer will usually make this the final stop and the main street just in front of the station is a hive of activity with buses, trams and taxis heading in every direction.
However, far from being just a functional travel facility with a number of shops and places to eat, the station building is a huge statement to Milan's historical, financial and cultural importance. Built in 1931, its array of vast, high, stone-built halls make it feel like a cathedral and nowhere is this more keenly felt than at the main platform area where the intricate steel canopy looms impressively overhead.
