The three national parks of Calabria provide the type of landscapes and scenery that most visitors to the region might find surprising. Best known for its summer seaside resorts and its hundreds of miles of coastline, Calabria nevertheless has a large hinterland of mountains, lakes and pastures.
In the Sila National Park for example, you may be forgiven for thinking you were in Norway as the cooler temperatures create vast parklands of thick forests and verdant countryside. Similar scenes can be found at the Pollino National Park part of which belongs to Basilicata, and Aspromonte National Park in the south. |
