Some of the most famous natural sights of Valle d'Aosta can be found with its mountain peaks and beautiful lakes. Vying for the position of best-known mountain peak are two heavyweight contenders in the division whose names are known internationally.
Mont Blanc as it's known on the French side becomes Monte Bianco in Italy and is the centrepiece of a cluster of ski resorts including Courmayeur on the Italian side. The Matterhorn shares some of those attributes as it glares down imperiously from its lofted perch overlooking the Breuil-Cervinia ski resort and also straddles an international border, this time with Switzerland. |
Offering a different set of landscapes but no less beautiful are two of the Valle d'Aosta regions lakes: the Lago di Place Moulin lies at the northern end of a steeply climbing valley and dazzles with its bright blue water. Lake Maen also shares that same attribute with its own azure shades and can itself be found in another of Valle d'Aosta's fascinating valley regions.
