The Lago di Place Moulin is situated a distance of 53 kilometres north-east of Aosta, the regional capital of Valle d'Aosta. 

The lake covers a surface area of 176 hectares and is 143 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,968 metres above sea level. Nearby places of interest include the towns of Bionaz, Oyace, Valpelline, Aosta, Pila and Aymavilles.
