The town of Opi is situated within the Province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo and had a population of 375 inhabitants on 1 January 2022. Standing at an elevation of 1,250 metres above sea level, Opi covers a total area of 50 square kilometres.
Its main sight is the 12th century Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta and is surrounded by the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. |
Opi is included both in Touring Cub Italiano's list of Bandiera Arancione/Orange Flag towns, as well as the Borghi Più Belli d'Italia (Italy's most beautiful villages). In the case of the latter, the listing headline is 'Two Rows of Houses on the Back of a Mountain" which refers to the aesthetic image of the town when viewed from a slight distance.
