​Situated in Agrigento Province, the borgo of Sambuca di Sicilia is listed as one of the "Borghi Più Belli d'Italia" (Italy's most beautiful villages) and has a population of just under 6,000 inhabitants. 

In January 2019 Sambuca's mayor Giuseppe Cacioppo brought the town to the world's attention when he made a number of homes available for a nominal fee of €1.

History
The history of Sambuca di Sicilia dates back to ancient times. The area was originally settled by the Sicels, an ancient indigenous population of Sicily. Later, it came under the influence of various civilizations, including the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Normans.

During the Arab rule in the 9th century, the town's name was "Zabut," which later evolved into "Sambuca." The name "Sambuca" possibly refers to the town's founder or a prominent leader from that era.

Throughout history, Sambuca di Sicilia has been a strategically important town due to its elevated position, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
