How to Get to San Marco d'Alunzio
By Rail: San Marco d’Alunzio does not have its own train station, but the nearest one is in Sant’Agata di Militello, about 10 kilometres away, on the Palermo–Messina line operated by Trenitalia. Regional trains connect Sant’Agata di Militello to Messina in around 2 hours and to Palermo in approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. From the station, local buses and taxis provide transport uphill to San Marco d’Alunzio.

By Road: San Marco d’Alunzio is situated in the Nebrodi Mountains of northern Sicily, about 10 kilometres inland from Sant’Agata di Militello. The drive from there takes roughly 20 minutes via the SP160. From Messina, the distance is around 120 kilometres, with a journey time of about 1 hour and 50 minutes via the A20 motorway. From Palermo, the drive is approximately 140 kilometres, taking just over 2 hours via the same route. Public parking is available near the entrance to the historic centre.

  • Catania Fontanarossa Airport: Located around 140 kilometres southeast of San Marco d’Alunzio, with a drive of about 2 hours via the A19 and A20 motorways. This is the most convenient airport, offering a wide range of domestic and international connections.
  • Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport: Situated roughly 160 kilometres west, taking around 2 hours and 20 minutes by car via the A20 motorway. It provides numerous year-round national and European flights.
  • Reggio Calabria Airport: Approximately 130 kilometres northeast, reachable in about 2 hours including the ferry crossing between Villa San Giovanni and Messina. It offers domestic routes and limited international services.
