Ski  Resorts  of  Abruzzo

The ski resorts of Abruzzo are mainly congregated around one area known as the Cinquemiglia and another area around 100 kilometres to the south around Roccaraso in the province of L'Aquila. During the winter, the area is covered in snow across the chilly Apennine Mountains that run along the spine of central Italy. 

Roccaraso is the most famous of the ski resorts in Abruzzo although the Cinquemiglia resort of Campo Imperatore enjoys a fame of a different kind: it was the scene of the daring raid by the Nazis to free the imprisoned Italian dictator Benito Mussolini in 1943. Assergi and Ovindoli are other popular spots, for skiing!
