Tossicia is a small town in the foothills of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park, where accommodation is mainly found in nearby villages and countryside locations. Options here are well reviewed for comfort, local character and proximity to outdoor activities.

Hotel Ristorante Pina (Castelli, approx. 8 kilometres) offers comfortable rooms, a restaurant serving traditional cuisine and strong guest feedback for hospitality and mountain views (€€). Hotel Miramonti (Isola del Gran Sasso d’Italia, approx. 12 kilometres) provides simple, well-maintained accommodation with a restaurant and excellent reviews for value and service (€). For a higher-end countryside stay, Dimora della Fontana (Colledara, approx. 10 kilometres) features elegant rooms in a restored building and is praised for its charm and attentive staff (€€€).

Standing at an elevation of 409 metres above sea level, it covers a total area of 27 km².

Tossicia lies a short distance north-east of the Gran Sasso & Monti della Laga National Park. 

A quiet and unassuming place, it doesn't have an abundance of sights but is home to a small museum (Museo di Tossicia) and its main church is the Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santa Maria Assunta.

How to Get to Tossicia
By Rail: The nearest train station to Tossicia is in Teramo, approximately 20 kilometres away. The station lies on the Giulianova–Teramo line operated by Trenitalia, with regional services. Trains from Teramo connect to Giulianova in about 30 minutes, where passengers can continue along the Adriatic coastal line to Pescara and Ancona. Buses and taxis provide onward travel from Teramo to Tossicia.

By Road: Tossicia is located in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo, at the foot of the Gran Sasso mountain range. From Teramo, the drive is around 20 kilometres and takes about 25 minutes via the SS150. From Pescara, it is approximately 80 kilometres and takes roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes by car. Parking is available in and around the village centre.

  • Pescara Abruzzo Airport: Approximately 75 kilometres from Tossicia, with a driving time of around 1 hour and 10 minutes via the A25 and SS150. It is the closest airport, offering domestic and European flights.
  • Ancona Falconara Airport: Located about 160 kilometres north, taking roughly 2 hours by car via the A14 motorway. A suitable option for travellers from northern or central Europe.
  • Rome Ciampino Airport: Around 155 kilometres west, with a journey time of approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes via the A24. Convenient for international visitors.
