The town of Auronzo di Cadore is located on the shores of Lake Auronzo (also known as Lake Santa Caterina), in the Province of Belluno and has a population of 3,279.

It's situated around 150 kilometres north of Venice, the regional capital of Veneto.​ Standing at an elevation of 862 metres above sea level, it covers an area of 220 km².

History
Auronzo di Cadore has ancient origins, dating back to Roman times when it was a small settlement along the ancient trade routes. Over the centuries, the town was influenced by various civilizations, including the Venetian Republic.

Auronzo di Cadore was historically known for agriculture, particularly for its dairy farming, producing cheese from the cows that graze in the surrounding alpine pastures.
