The Imperia Province in Liguria occupies a total geographical area of 1,155 square kilometres, including the provincial capital city of Imperia.
Within the province there are 66 provincial towns, known as communes (comune singular or comuni plural in Italian). The total population of Imperia Province is around 214,000 inhabitants. |

History
The area of Imperia has a long history dating back to ancient times. It was inhabited by Ligurian tribes and later became part of the Roman Empire. Throughout the Middle Ages, the region was a contested territory, with various city-states and maritime republics vying for control.
