The two largest and most popular lakes of Lazio occupy an area to the north west of Rome and the regional border with Tuscany.
Lake Bolsena with a surface area of 113 km² is by some distance the largest; it's situated in the north-eastern corner of Lazio, close to the city of Viterbo and has some wonderful resorts around it. The largest of those is the lake's main town, also called Bolsena, while the likes of Marta and Capodimonte are equally charming. Of only slightly smaller proportions, Lake Bracciano is Lazio's second largest lake and home to towns such as Trevignano Romano. |
