How to Get to Montescaglioso
By Rail: Montescaglioso does not have its own train station, but the nearest one is in Matera, about 15 kilometres away, on the Bari–Matera line operated by Ferrovie Appulo Lucane (FAL). Trains connect Matera to Bari in around 1 hour and 40 minutes. From Matera, local buses and taxis provide frequent connections to Montescaglioso.

By Road: Montescaglioso is situated in southern Basilicata, about 15 kilometres south of Matera. The drive takes roughly 20 minutes via the SP8 road. From Taranto, the distance is approximately 75 kilometres, with a journey time of around 1 hour and 15 minutes via the SS106. The town is easy to reach by regional roads, with parking available near the historic centre and around Abbazia di San Michele Arcangelo.

  • Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport: Located about 90 kilometres northwest of Montescaglioso, with a drive of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes via the SS96 and SS7. This is the most convenient airport, offering numerous domestic and international flights.
