Porto Taverna is a small coastal settlement on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia, best known for its sandy beach and views towards Tavolara Island. Accommodation in the immediate area is mostly made up of holiday rentals and smaller residences, but the wider Province of Sassari and Gallura coastline provides several established hotels.

In San Teodoro, Hotel Terra di Mare is a modern property with a pool, wellness facilities and good reviews for both comfort and location (€€). Also in San Teodoro, Hotel Bonsai offers spacious rooms, a rooftop terrace and strong feedback for its helpful staff and proximity to the town centre (€€). For a more resort-style option, Resort Grande Baia between Porto Taverna and San Teodoro provides extensive grounds, multiple pools and direct beach access, with consistently positive guest ratings (€€€).

Olbia Costa Smeraldo Airport is 20 minutes away by car, a distance of 16 kilometres. Recommended accommodation is the Hotel Don Diego, three kilometres away in Porto San Paolo from where it's possible to take the ferry across to Tavolara.

How to Get to Porto Taverna
By Rail: Porto Taverna does not have its own train station. The nearest rail connection is in Olbia, approximately 20 kilometres to the north, served by Trenitalia trains on the Cagliari–Golfo Aranci line. From Olbia, Porto Taverna can be reached by car, taxi, or local bus services. The journey from Olbia to Porto Taverna takes around 25 minutes by road.

By Road: Porto Taverna is located on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia, about 20 kilometres south of Olbia and 10 kilometres north of San Teodoro. The area is accessible via the SS125 road, with a driving time of approximately 25 minutes from Olbia. Parking is available near the beach and accommodation areas.

  • Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport: Located roughly 18 kilometres from Porto Taverna, with a drive of around 20 minutes. The airport provides regular domestic and international flights, especially during the summer season.
