The best seaside towns of Sardinia are the perfect accompaniment to the island region's miles of legendary beaches.
Those beaches create high expectations of towns to match and Sardinia doesn't disappoint. Top of the list is the town of Alghero which has just about everything you might want from a seaside resort: great beaches, a charming old town, a marina, excellent accommodation options and a unique Catalan culture. With Alghero occupying the north west coast of Sardinia, we find another beautiful town situated to the north east. |
Santa Teresa Gallura is somewhat smaller than Alghero but it can boast one of the very best beaches in Italy: Rena Bianca right in the town centre. There are lots of great beaches nearby as well including those on the Capo Testa coastal area with astonishingly clear water.

You could reasonably argue that Bosa doesn't belong on this because technically, it's not a seaside town, but lies a little way inland along an inlet. However, allowing for artistic licence or not, it absolutely deserves its place at the top of lists of things to see in Sardinia. It's really rather unique with its multi-coloured buildings looking down on to a beautiful centro storico.
Cala Gonone draws visitors for a number of reasons: firstly, its beaches are fringed with shallow blue water and when you put this together with some great accommodation options and restaurants serving freshly-caught fish around a marina, the case starts to build. However, perhaps none of those things is Cala Gonone's biggest attraction, because it sits at the northern end of the Orosei Gulf with some of Italy's best beaches and arguably Sardinia's best beach of all, Cala Goloritzé just a short boat ride away.
