The town of Asciano lies at the heart of the famous Crete Senesi region, famed for its landscapes of rolling hills and cypress trees. Asciano itself has a population of around 7,000 and is within the Province of Siena. 

Brightly-coloured buildings line the medieval streets of the town which also has a number of fine churches to visit. 
There are plenty of places to eat and drink here but accommodation options are better in Siena which is a 40 minute drive away. If you're planning to visit by public transport, there are trains and buses to Asciano. Trains are best; there are two stations in the town centre on different train lines, one of which reaches Siena in 24 minutes. ​
