This list of historic towns of Tuscany showcases some of the most fascinating and evocative locations in the region.

Heading the list is the town of Vinci: if it wasn't for its most famous son, the village would probably go largely unnoticed but when that son is a certain Leonardo, it's easy to understand how the sleepy village has grown in stature and firmly fixed on the tourist trail.

The remaining towns on this list aren't necessarily able to name an historic celebrity among their former residents but they are all overflowing with historic charm and fascinating architecture.
