The Castello di Montefiore Conca and Sigismondo Malatesta
Dominating the local scenery is Montefiore Conca's hilltop fortress: the Castello di Montefiore Conca, also known as the Rocca Malatestiana. The second part of the second of those names relates to the Malatesta family that ruled Rimini and its surrounding area for parts of the medieval period.
Among the family's most illustrious members was Sigismondo Malatesta, a legendary condottiere (warlord) who strove for local power and also fought against the Ottoman Empire. Twentieth century poet Ezra Pound waxed lyrical about Sigismondo Malatesta in his 1922 work: the Malatesta Cantos.

One of the most beautiful villages in Italy
Nowadays the pretty village welcomes visitors looking for a slice of countryside calm and here they find it, among Emilia Romagna's sprawling landscapes.
The village is recognised as one of the Borghi Più Belli d'Italia and also by the Bandiera Arancione (Orange Flag) organisation for its touristic merits. Aside from the fortress the Rocca Malatestiana, the village's medieval streets are a delight to explore and include a small fossil museum (Museo di Minerali e Fossili) and a pretty church: the Chiesa dell'Ospedale.

Close to Montefiore Conca
Unless you're planning to stay the night locally, it's unlikely you'll spend more than half a day in Montefiore but there's much to see in the surrounding area.
The local region is dominated by the seaside resorts on the Adriatic such as Cattolica (16 km), Riccione (19 km) and Rimini (26 km), but if you're looking for something more along the lines of Montefiore then west of the village is the pretty hilltop village of San Leo (39 km) and the much larger San Marino (23 km), a hilltop principality which requires more of a full day to properly explore.
South of Montefiore is the neighbouring region of Marche and its star attraction: the Renaissance town of Urbino (28 km).
