History
Anagni has ancient origins, dating back to pre-Roman times when it was an important center for the Hernici people. During the Roman period, it became a thriving municipality along the ancient Via Latina, an important Roman road. Anagni's history is deeply intertwined with the Papacy, as it served as a residence and refuge for several popes during the Middle Ages.
