Of the six provinces of Puglia, one is named after the regional capital, another is formed of three joint provincial capitals, and the remaining four after the major city in their respective areas.
In terms of population, the Metropolitan City of Bari is the largest province with one and a quarter million inhabitants but the 7,007 km² of Foggia Province make it the largest by measure of territory. Lecce Province equates almost to the same area as the Salento region of Puglia with Brindisi Province and Taranto Province named after port cities. The final province is Barletta Andria Trani. |
