Of the list of major cities and towns of Calabria, the most populous is the city of Reggio Calabria which faces Sicily across the Messina Strait. Unlike most of the other 19 regions of Italy, the capital of Calabria is not the city with the largest population.
It is instead the city of Catanzaro which is the administrative centre of the region and of the eponymous province. There are five provinces in Calabria with the remaining three being named after their main cities of Cosenza, Vibo Valentia and Crotone. Away from the provincial capitals, the cities with the largest populations are Lamezia Terme and the joint comune of Corigliano-Rossano. |
