Provinces of Lombardy

The provinces of Lombardy are the 12 districts that make up the region which has Milan as its capital. Lombardy is one of the 20 regions of Italy and the one with the largest amount of provinces.
By far the most populous is that of the Metropolitan City of Milan with in excess of three million inhabitants. However, in terms of geographical area, the largest is Brescia Province with its 4,785 km². Each province has a number of comunes (or communes, comuni in Italian) which are generally-speaking the next level of town after the major cities and the provincial capitals. With 244 comunes, Bergamo Province has the largest amount in Lombardy.
