The seaside towns of Calabria constitute the long list of official municipalities, known in Italy as comuni, that occupy the region's vast coastline. Wedged between Basilicata to the north and Sicily to the south, Calabria faces out onto the Tyrrhenian Coast on its western side and the Ionian Coast to its east.
Within this enormous stretch of seaside are some outstanding towns that rank among the best coastal resorts in Italy. The jewel in Calabria's seaside crown is Tropea with its crystalline water and beautiful historic borgo overlooking it, while just a short drive away is pretty Pizzo which is just as attractive. |
For the most part escaping the attention of International tourists, the seaside town of Scilla is a particular favourite with the locals. Not only does it have a beautiful beach, but it's one of the prettiest towns in Italy with its cluster of multi-coloured houses topped by a castle.
